“When the Moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius…”
Thus begins one of the most spectacular movies I’ve ever watched – Milos Forman’s masterpiece Hair. The film originates in the late 70s, but from today’s perspective is a brilliant projection of the times we live in now. The storyline goes around the Vietnam War, but into the deeper layers is a vision of humanity’s transition to the Age of Aquarius and the transformation of our civilization. As a person down into Astrology and Spirituality, I am grateful to be on Earth and have the unique chance to be witnessing the transition to this New Age.
THE BIG SHIFT
I will not get into a retrospective of the eras preceding Aquarius, hoping to provoke your exploring spirit. Only will mention that each zodiacal constellation creates conditions for awakening its aspirations and mastering certain qualities. The latter applies both to the individual and society.
The consensus among astrologers is that astrological ages are approximately 2000 years long, and we have been in the age of Pisces for about the past two millennia. With the story of the birth of Christ, many Christian symbols use the astrological figure of Pisces, the fishes. The crucifixion of Christ for the salvation of humanity is symbolic of the qualities embodied in Pisces – sacrifice, suffering, and spiritual growth. Some theories even assume that Christ was born in the middle of March, under the zodiac sign of Pisces. But that is another story.
WHAT IS THE AGE OF AQUARIUS
Generally speaking, the Age of Aquarius is about communication and technology. Life is becoming more complex, as are our needs to cope with it. Everything goes faster, and we have less time. So, we need to integrate the spiritual side of life with the technological and material side – “spiritual health” – to feel the meaning and significance of what is happening to us. We need more love and community because the fear and uncertainty are overwhelming. We cannot live in isolation, and every action we take must be conscious as it directly or indirectly affects a vast network of people, living beings, and places. So it’s not surprising why people globally strive for change in ecology, economy, and political models.
Even though the opinions differ about the precise timing of the shift from Pisces to Aquarius, there is no doubt that we are in the transition phase already. This transition will happen within a few decades and is underway since we are in the fourth industrial revolution, a period of accelerated globalization, total change of values, and the rapid development of technology, and artificial intelligence. For better or worse, but irreversibly. On the positive side, technology gives us a lot of individual freedom, the ability to share multiple resources on the web, and limitless opportunities to express ourselves.
Uranus is the ruler of Aquarius, and the very name of this planet means “Sky” in Greek. So now we have to bring heaven back into us. Heaven is about more light, and light is about thought, hence education, culture, sharing, and breathing clean air. Aquarius is about attaining that we are one. It’s no coincidence that Hair ends with “Let The Sunshine In.”
